The Garuda Journey - Aerofood Catering Service(ガルだの旅行 - アエロフッドのケータリングサービス)

February 8 2011

ACS stands for Aero Catering Service. It is a place where they provide the blankets and food that we receive everytime we sat inside a plane.

It has lots of mottos, such as: integrity, fast, reliable, efficient, excellent work, hygiene, and trust. It has branches all over Indonesia, such as:

  • Surabaya
  • Medan
  • Balikpapan
  • Jogja
  • Denpasar

Their quality had been proven from a certificate they got about food safety, it was the ISO certificate. They got to audit their company every 6 months between units. It has been working since 1972 and already had 4,000 employees. It accepts hospital service also. They are Siloam, Pondok Indah, etc. Beside food in the planes and hospital service, they also did the laundry! Called with ACS Laundry.

ACS serves around 35,000 portions each day. Their beef meat is imported from Australia because it's quality and hygiene, but the chicken is still from Indonesia. They have rivals from Malaysia and Singapore, but still they compete well enough.

We went inside the process of making, packing, and delivery (to the aircraft). Before we went inside the processing plant, we need to wear a special suit and a head cap. It is compulsory because a single drop of hair will cause them over 2 million Rupiahs (200 Dollars) of penalty. So we have to be extra careful. The storage room was separated into different doors, each bearing a different temperature. The coldest one is the freezer, which is about minus 20 centigrade. We went inside and it was extremely cold.

There are rooms labelled ‘bread’, ‘japanese’, ‘asians’, and many more. There even a place for drinks, there are a lot of gallons there! They got juices, fruits, vegetables, and lots of stuff. That is why they have a lot of employees to organize it. There are rooms for plates, bowls, glasses, forks, and spoons. They separate it into many blocks, for: Mandala, Garuda, China Airlines, etc. Each block has different types of equipments, different colors and patterns also. It used to differentiate them from another plane. 5R for them are ringkas, rapi, resik, rawat, and rajin and they take it seriously.

Before we went to the third place, we had our lunch in ACS. Their food were delicious! They served Indonesian food such as sop buntut and broccoli.
